Cyrus Livingston Dunham

U.S. Congressman. He taught school, studied law, was admitted to the bar, then moved to Salem, Indiana, in 1841 and commenced the practice of law. He was prosecuting attorney of Washington County in 1845 and a member of the Indiana State House of Representatives, (1846-47). In 1849, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first, Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses, serving until 1855. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed by Governor Willard Secretary of Indian State, serving (1859-60). During the Civil War, he served as Colonel in command of the 15th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, Union Army, (1861-63). After the war, he resumed the practice of law, was a member of the Indian State House of Representatives, (1864-65) and judge of Clark County Criminal Court, (1871-74). (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
