CIVIL WAR - 16th Ind. Field Art'y.

DEATH OF LEWIS BROOKS - Lewis Brooks died at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his niece, Mrs. Laura Commingore, 401 Chauncy Avenue, West Lafayette, from paralysis. He was stricken a week ago. Mr. Brooks came to this city about thirty years ago from Kentucky. He was born in the southern part of the state about seventy years ago. His wife died many years ago. The deceased served throughout the Civil War and had an excellent record as a soldier. Mr. Brooks was an expert carpenter and was employed for several years at the old car works. He was a good citizen and a man of rugged character. The following sisters and brother survive: Mrs. Clara Hill, of this city; Mrs. Louisa McConkey, of DeWitt County, Illinois, and J. W. Brooks, of Lincoln, Nebraska. The funeral will be conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. M.C. Wright will officiate and the interment will be made in Grand View Cemetery. Military Stone.
