A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Hyde was born March 14, 1921, a daughter of the late Charles and Naomi Patterson Shiflett. She was a member of the Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church and a retired homemaker. Mrs. Hyde was preceded in death by her son, Charles F. Hyde on June 20, 1992 and by her brothers, Joe, George, Bill and Bob Shiflett and her sisters Bell Dukes, Stella Broadway and Mary Loyd.
Mrs. Shiflett is survived by her husband of over 60 years Herman M. Hyde to whom she was married on June 5, 1936, a devoted daughter-in-law Celeste Hyde of Rome, 2 grandsons Chuck and Keith Hyde both of Rome, Keith's wife Amy and 2 great-granddaughters, all of Rome, a brother Jack Shiflett of Rome and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Linus McWhorter and Rev. James Studdard officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in East View Cemetery. Mrs Hyde will lie in state at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. At other hours the family may be contacted at 41 Elwood Street in the Riverside Community.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Wednesday morning at 10:40 AM and they include Benny, Tommy, Bill and Tim Shiflett and Robert and Jimmy Duke as active pallbearers and Richard Phillips and Gene Williams as honorary pallbearers.
The Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Eva Mae Shiflett Hyde, age 75 of 333 Turner McCall Blvd. Rome.
