Mr. Busbin was born February 9, 1926, in Spartanburg, SC to the late Carl B. Busbin and Levoy P. Busbin. He became a Charlottean at 6 months old. He lived in Dilworth and attended Dilworth School and Alexander Graham Junior High School and then went on to attend Gastonia High School.

Mr. Busbin joined the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and served aboard ships ferrying planes, tanks, troops, etc. in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific War Zones until the war was over.
He spent 23 years with the Westinghouse Electric Corp., rising to the position of Vice President in Pittsburgh, PA. He was President of CPK of California until 1978 when he and his family returned to Charlotte. He owned and ran the H.W. Carriker Corp. and the Good Earth Wood Works until he retired in 1987.
'Buzz,' as his friends called him, loved to play golf and even wrote a book on the subject. He was a member of River Hills Country Club for 25 years. He served for many years on the River Hills Country Club Board, the River Hills Yacht Club Board, River Hills Lions Club Board, and Planning Committee and Marketing Committee, and of the River Hills Community Associations.
He was especially fond of music - 40's, 50's, Swing and Jazz, Classical Symphony, Opera and other Chamber music. He also loved cooking, entertaining, telling stories, helping anyone, and traveling in the US and Europe. He never saw a dog he didn't love. He was especially a 'fool' for English Bulldogs, having five of them over 50 years.
Some volunteer activities include mentoring students, answering the phone for the church and preparing food for the homeless with the Local Urban Ministry and he loved to write about what he thought could be an even greater America.
In 2002, he and Pat moved to Magnolia Avenue in Dilworth, one block from where he spent the first 12 years of his life and where he spent the last years of his life. (He could come home again.)
