Walter Backus
Walter Edward Backus, 82, 38773 N. W. Second Ave. Scio died on Sunday, Jan. 22, 1984 at the hone of a stepdaughter in Albany. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Home. Burial followed at Miller cemetery northwest of Scio near Shelburn. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society.
He was born March 11, 1901 in Plano, Ill, and had lived in Roundup, Montana, for 10 years before moving to Scio in 1976. Backus , who worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 43 years in Nebraska, had been a section foreman at the time of retirement in 1965. He married Hazel I. Burge on March 19, 1949 in Valentine, Neb. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Ruth Davis of Vancouver, Wash, Dorothy Phillips of Ridgefield, Wash; two sons, Walter E Jr. of Ocean Park, Wash and Wayne of Escondido, Calif; three stepdaughters Betty Biltoft of Clancy, Mont, Patricia Jamison of Sweet Home, and Jeanne Overman of Albany; one stepson, Dick Tressler of Vancouver, Wash; two sisters, June Wilkinson of Hot Springs, S. D and Mildred Darlington of Crawford, Neb; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
