Martin Van Buren Brandon's Civil War military service was enlisting in Company I, Illinois 6th Cavalry Regiment on 19 Nov 1861. He then enlisted 18 Apr 1864. Promoted to Full Corporal. Mustered out on 05 Aug 1865. Transferred to Company H, Illinois 58th Infantry Regiment on 05 Aug 1865. Mustered out on 01 Apr 1866 at Montgomery, AL. A Pension Application was filed as invalid in 1882 Missouri.

He was born in Belmont County, Ohio to Charles Brandon and Suffrona/Frances/Fronny/Schlosher/Schusher. After his mother's death, he was raised by step mother Sarah Barker Brandon.
