Linwood C. Mehaffey, 86, a Rockdale resident the past 55 years, was born in Clarksville, Texas. He and Pauline Griffith were married March 14, 1943 in Palestine. He was a graduate of Clarksville High School, graduate of Paris Junior College, Army veteran of World War II, Member of St. John's United Methodist Church, served on Rockdale School Board, former mayor of Rockdale and on the board of directors at Lakeview Methodist Assembly. Mr. Mehaffey was a businessman and property developer. He was owner / operator of Mehaffey's Dry Goods in Rockdale for many years. Mr. Mehaffey died on his 86th birthday while residing at the Renaissance Villa Nursing Home in Rockdale. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at St. John's United Methodist Church in Rockdale with Rev. John Warren of St. John's United Methodist Church and Rev. Lee Lamb officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Robert and David Mehaffey; and sister, Margaret Roddy.
