Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Civil War as a Private in Company D, 57th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863. His citation reads simply "Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party".
