Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Army during the wars with the Plains Indians as a Private in Company I, 9th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery in action at the Cuchillo Negro Mountains, New Mexico on August 16, 1881. His citation reads "Bravery in action with hostile Apaches". He would rise to the rank of First Sergeant.
