When Mrs. Catherine Robinson Blain breathed her last at an early hour Tuesday morning, probably the oldest woman in Lincoln county was removed from earthly scenes. The death occured at her late home near Hustonville after a long illness of troubles incident to old age. Had she lived until January next, Mrs. Blain would have been 90. She was the widow of Senator Robert Blain, who was well known in this county and who died 23 years ago.
Five children blessed the union of this couple. They are Dr. Moreland Blain and Miss Fannie Blain, deceased, and Mrs. T.G. Tupman, Miss Kate Blain and Mr. John A. Blain, all of the West End.
Mrs. Blain was a Miss Hawkins and was born and raised in Fayette county, only a few miles from Lexington and was first married to a Mr. Bell, who left her a widow at an early age.
She had been a member of the Presbyterian church many years and was a valiant worker for her Master as long as her health lasted. She was conscious up to within a few days of her death and frequently expressed her willingness to die.
Her pastor, Rev. S.B. Lander, preached an appropriate funeral discourse at the home at 10 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, after which the remains were brought to Stanford and interred by the side of her husband in Buffalo cemetery. Rev. Lander also made timely remarks at the grave. A good woman, a kind and indulgent mother and a most excellent neighbor has joined the silent majority. May her rest be unbroken in the land that is fairer than day.
