Signed the Oath of Allegence, Berks Co., PA
***(note) Germany was not Germany as such until about 1850. It was made of many Palatinate, sort of little countries that had language in common, like our states but withour the common government. As for signing an allegence, they were taken off the boats and marched to the court house to do so. Christian signed the same date and just above George Yeakley, soon to marry his daughter Ann Deppen. I have to differ on where Christian was born at this point, it was Thurn, Canton, Switzerland. They had to board boats in the German region however. He died at Womelsdorf, Berks Co.,Pennsylvania, at the very large "Ruchti" plantation of Veronica'sw parents. His parents, with children, arrived on the boat "Princess Agusta".
I USED THE "Counting Kindred" book to start my research on. I also have Christian's will and immigration records. The book was difficult to follow so my friends sat and we read and reread the pages until we could be sure we followed it correctly. When we finished, I took it to the Morman Church Temple in Mesa, Arizona for their opinion. I am positive we followed it.
decendent of Christian and Veronica thru Anna their daughter and George Yeakley.
I can not in good faith go beyond this first ancestors and his children. I bought the Book, so I know it is still posible to do so.
What this book did for me, I don't expect anyone else to get quite that much out of it but it is a marvel in its own right. I knew because of my fathers family that Pine Grove, Pa was way beyond the frontier. The Hetzel church was built by Peter Hetzel, my GGGG Grandfather. He started the church in an 10X14 ft. cabin. Some of the families that this book mentions are the members of this church. In 1807 most of the members of this church picked up and moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio where they were to collect their Rev.War pensions. So when I found Peter Deppen, Christian and Veronica's son buried there, it did make a much stronger connection for me.
Just to think that 275 years ago my ancestors knew each other not well but very well, depending on each other in order to survive.
