Elwood Shirley, 83, devoted husband and father, died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, D. G. Shirley.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, a retiree of I.B.M., a veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was the son of the late Ralph and Fannie Chandler Shirley Cassity.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eula Patrick, and a brother, Raymond Shirley.
Elwood was one of central Kentucky's well known genealogists and was a member of several historical societies. The funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at St. Paul Catholic Church presided over by Father Dan Noll and Father Frank Osburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
