Wasilla resident JACK L. BLANKENSHIP, 79, died June 24, 2001, at home. A memorial service was held at Fairview Loop Baptist Church, Mile 8.25 Fairview Loop Road, in Wasilla. The Rev. Tom Hoffman officiated.
Mr. Blankenship was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Riffe, Wash. He joined the U.S. Navy in December 1941 and served until August 1945. He began his Alaska residency in 1982, living in Juneau until 1987, then Wasilla until the time of his death. Mr. Blankenship had been employed as a logger and trucker from 1938 to 1941, well driller for Atomic Energy Commission from 1945 to 1954, ironworker from 1954 to 1971, and as a trucker form 1972 to 1977, at which time he retired because of a disability. Mr. Blankenship was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masons and Benevolent And Protective Order of Elks Lodge. His hobbies and special interests included hunting and fishing. His family stated, ''He loved and was very proud of his family.''
Mr. Blankenship is survived by his wife, June Marie Blankenship of Wasilla; son, Damon of Wasilla; daughter, Jackie Lynn Heller of Delta Junction; stepdaughters, Judy Heidlebaugh of Las Vegas and Denise Hesse of Onalaska, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Arnold Blankenship of Mossy Rock, Wash., Hartley Blankenship of Chelan, Wash., Freeman Blankenship of Cinebar, Wash., and Delman Blankenship of Tacoma, Wash. Arrangements were by Valley Funeral Home of Wasilla.
