Yvonne "Bonnie" Marie Gaumer Connelly, 72, of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at her home in Farmington. She was born Aug. 4, 1938, near Dove Creek, Colo., the daughter of Simon Gaumer.
Bonnie was married to Jerry Connelly, who passed away in 1991. During their marriage, she worked side by side with her husband Jerry, building an oil and gas service company known as Quadco Inc.
When her husband died, Bonnie assumed control of the business and made it one of the top 10 private businesses in the state of New Mexico for several years. Due to her efforts in the midst of adversity, she was named the Top Business Woman of the state of New Mexico. In 1999, Bonnie was awarded "Humanitarian of the Year Award for San Juan County" for her generous contributions in the Farmington area.
She served meals at Daily Bread; served as a Chamber of Commerce Redcoats Ambassador; and was a member of the San Juan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, committed to its mission to meet the health care needs of the Four Corners. Bonnie also served on the Board of People Assisting the Homeless (PATH). She annually attended the 4-H livestock auction at the San Juan County fair and participated in helping young people by buying some of their animals and donating them to local charities.
She founded the Connelly Hospitality House in Farmington. She walked hundreds of miles in support of the annual Cancer Walk-a-thon and supported the Animal Humane Society.
Bonnie leaves behind one child, Michael Connelly; and her dearly loved grandchildren, Mark Ryan, Alexander Michael and Amanda M. Connelly.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington.
A reception will follow the visitation at the Connelly Hospitality House, 710 South Lake St. in Farmington.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Mark R. Connelly, Michael L. Connelly, Roger Hooker, Ray Beavers, David Baggett and Zang Wood.
Honorary pallbearers are Alex M. Connelly, Iley Jackson, Gary Eslinger and Bob Eslinger.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, located near Monticello, Utah.
It was Bonnie's wish that memorial donations be made to San Juan Animal League, P.O. Box 147, Farmington, NM 87499. Donations in Bonnie's name in the form of pet food, blankets and toys for animals may be left at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, where they will be delivered to the San Juan Animal League.
