Alvin S. Rude, 94, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of the Hamar/Tolna area, died on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.

Funeral Services for Alvin will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Hamar, ND. Rev. David Nichols will officiate and burial will be in the Sigdal Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Serving as Casket Bearers for Alvin will be his grandchildren, Larry Rude Jr., Jackleyn Ryan, Cary Rude; Jody Osowski, Karen McAllen, Crystal Schuabel; Lynn Rude, Danielle Rude, Shane Allard; Tana Ruud, Eric Ruud, Carmen Ruud; Chad Huffman, Kevin Huffman, Paul Huffman; Jason Schwab, April Rude, Jessee Rude;

Honorary Bearers will be the Great Grandchildren: Courtney Ryan, Collin Rude; Kyla Osowski; Paul Berge; Sawyer Huffman; Bailey Schwab; Summer Schuabel, Sadie Schuabel, Bailey Rude, Braden Rude, Makaya Allard, Matthew Allard and Bryson Allard.

Alvin Selmer Rude was born on March 19, 1913 at his parents' farm, south of Hamar in Eddy County, the son of Carl and Anna (Borgerson) Rude. He attended country schools in the Hamar area then spent most of his life farming and ranching. He also worked in the Tolna Farmers Union and in Sheyenne.

Alvin was united in marriage to Pearl Harding on September 10, 1943 in New Rockford, ND. They established their home on the farm north of Hamar where they lived, worked and raised their family then moving to Devils Lake in 1969. While living in Devils Lake, Alvin worked for a time as a rural mail carrier and also worked at Lake Region State College and the North Dakota School for the Deaf, retiring in 1986. They continued to make their home in Devils Lake and in 2003, Alvin moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake and then in 2005 he moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.

Alvin was a member of the Sigdal Lutheran Church where he served on the church board and also served on the Minco Township Board.

Alvin worked hard to provide for his family but also enjoyed several hobbies and pastimes including softball, playing cards and horse shoes and a fun game of billiards. He enjoyed music and reading, especially a good Western. But most treasured were the grandchildren and great grandchildren who could always put a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Pearl Children: Larry Rude and his wife, Linda of Lakota, ND Delores McAllen and her husband, Jim of Idaho Falls, Idaho Jack Rude of Williston, ND Linda Ruud and her husband, Curt of Mohall, ND Donna Weinberger and her husband, Wayne of Glendive, Montana Jeff Rude and his wife, Shelly of Devils Lake Nineteen Grandchildren Thirteen Great Grandchildren Brother: Ernest (Dorothy) Rude, Portland, Oregon Sisters: Sophie Harding, White Salmon, Washington Alpha Quam, Tolna, ND Many Nieces and Nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren; brothers, Joseph, Clarence, Gilly and Lenny Rude; sisters, Helen Gjestvang, Idelia Messner and Pam Goesch.

The family wants to thank the Staff of the Lutheran Home for their wonderful, loving care and the Carrington Health Center Hospice for their kindness and support this past month. God bless you all.
