"Your mother is always with you. She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She's the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself. She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well. She's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors of a rainbow, she is Christmas morning. Your mother lives inside your laughter. She's the place you came from, your first home, and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you, not time, not space...not even death."

Doris Lorraine Kennelly's Eulogy (Memorial Service)

Doris "Lorraine" Jewett was born March 4, 1923 at home in Annandale, Minnesota to Harry and Florence Jewett. She was their first born daughter and was followed by three more sisters: Jean, Ethel and Dolores. Her family moved from Annandale to Minneapolis where she was raised with her sisters.
Lorraine graduated from West High School in Minneapolis. She worked at various places and met and married Warren Childers. Warren was in the military and while living in Kentucky and then Virginia, she had two sons, Rich and Jim Childers. After she and Warren divorced, Lorraine moved back to Minnesota where she met and married Thomas Kennelly. They lived in Savage where three of their five children were born - twins Terry and Tom, and Harry. They moved from Savage to Morningside where they had two more children, Larry and Janis. They raised their family of seven children in Morningside and Edina and later the two of them moved to Bloomington, Minnesota
Lorraine started work at American Collectors Association in Minneapolis. She was an Executive Secretary to the President, John W. Johnson for many years. She attended many of ACA's conventions in different states and made many new friends. She later worked in other departments of ACA. She enjoyed her job and the people she worked with. Many of them became lifelong friends.
She loved to travel both domestically and internationally. She had four sons and a son-in-law in the military around the same time. They were stationed in Germany, South Korea, and Viet Nam. This was a difficult time for her because she was experiencing the "Empty Nest Syndrome" when they all left at once. She visited Rich in Germany and travelled around Europe, and Harry in Hawaii. She was thankful her boys all returned safely.
Her husband Thomas passed away in September 1988. Lorraine later moved to a condo in St. Louis Park. She enjoyed reading novels, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, potluck dinners and taking long walks with her friends. She easily walked 2-3 miles a day.
She continued travelling with friends from work and enjoyed her vacations with daughters Terry and Janis. She loved her trips to Hawaii and yearly trips to Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas. Terry and Dane would take her to their place "up north" almost every weekend. Her son Jim and daughter-in-law Elsie lived a short distance from them, so frequently got together to play cards, boggle, scrabble and other board games. She especially enjoyed it when her granddaughter Kelly, husband Rick and great granddaughter Madison came up for the week-end. She also went to Janis and Glenn's home in Lindstrom. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She spent four years in Assisted Living at Meadow Woods. There she was able to enjoy the concerts and other activities that they had for the residents. As her Alzheimer's progressed, she needed more care and was moved to Martin Luther Care Center, where she spent the past two years. The nurses would tell us what a wonderful smile she had. She couldn't always communicate with us, but her smile would say it all. She received good care from the nursing home and three months of Hospice care until she passed away on January 6, 2011 at the age of 87. She was a loving mother and will be deeply missed.
We are sure that each of you have touched her life in a different way and have special memories of her.
