MILTON — Carl D. Bitler Sr., 87, of Milton, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at the Rockwell Center, Milton, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Philadelphia, a son of the late James Dietrick and Elizabeth (Lunger) Dietrick. Carl was married to Lois, who also passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Kramm Healthcare, Milton. They were married for 65 years.
Carl served in the Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.
He was employed for 38 years by Milton Manufacturing as a shipping supervisor. He was a past president of the AFL-CIO.
Carl enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, football and puzzles.
He is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Carl Bitler Jr., of Whitehall, Walter T. and Barbara Bitler, of Webster, N.Y., and Richard T. Bitler, of Milton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma and Mildred, and two brothers, Walter and Henry "Bud" Dietrick.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, Milton, is handling the arrangements.
