Mary was born on June 26, 1913 in British Colombia, Canada, the daughter of Roy and Margaret (Robinson) Hildebrand. She was the oldest of 13 children and was raised in Hope, B.C. She graduated from high school in Bellingham, Washington.
In June of 1945, Mary married Louis R. Branze and they had one son. Louis was later killed serving in the Armed Forces during WWII. In December 1949, she married Lynn Baker in Vancouver, Washington. Together they made their home in Colton, Oregon where they lived on a farm and Mary worked as a homemaker. She also worked for 15 years at Jolly Jone Restaurant in Portland as a waitress. She moved to Troutdale in 1992 and in 2010 to Vancouver where she was closer to her son.
Mary raised everything from cats to cattle and did all of her own veterinary work. She grew 90% of her family's food on the farm and knew how to pour concrete, frame houses, and do electrical work. She truly was a jack of all trades. All of her life, Mary was productive and hardworking and she was deeply devoted to her family.
Mary is survived by her son Neil (wife, Mary Lynne) Branze of Vancouver, grandson David Branze numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Lynn and her 12 brothers and sisters all preceded her in death.
No services will be held for Mary. A private inurnment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery.
