She was born as Klaaske van der Woude (= of the Forest) at the country village Thesinge, municipality Ten Boer, in the mid-northern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. Her parents are Jannes (later on in the USA: John and James) van der Woude, 37 years aged, and Pieterke (later on in the USA: Priscilla) Vredevoogd, both day-laborers and born in Thesinge (too).
She emigrated in 1909 with her parents and siblings to the Dutch settlement Holland, later on called Amsterdam, in the southwestern part of Montana, USA.
In 1910 Clara Van Der Woude (18 y), resided, very probably as a servant maid, at the home of Peter Alberda's family (FAG nr. 47924171) at Schooldistrict 34 of Gallatin County.
In 1920 Clara Van Der Woude (27 y) lived with her parents John (65 y) and Picterke (58 y), sister Jennie (17 y) and brothers Henry (20 y) and Clarence (14 y) in Gallatin County, Montana too.
