Wayne A. Shookman (Major, USAF-Retired), of China Spring, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at a later date.

Wayne was born in Beach, N.D., to Wayne and Durana Shookman and raised in Wisconsin, where his children continue to reside. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp as a mechanic and worked his way to become a Major in the U.S. Air Force. After his military career, he worked for Waco Apparel. He was a member of the Order of Daedalians (The National Fraternity of Military Pilots), life member of Military Officers Association of America and a member of The American Legion, Post #121.Also, a past member of the Confederate Air Force, and was pilot of the "Spirit of Waco." He served his country faithfully, loved his family and was a great friend to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Virginia Ruth Shookman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Jeannette Morrow Shookman, of China Spring; daughters, Judy Shookman, Mary Shulte and Lucy Ruder; sons, Tom, Tony and Greg; step-daughters, Lucy Elizabeth Marlow and Stephanie Fadal Langner; 10 grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
