Charles (known as Charlie when he was a boy and Chuck as an adult) Edwin Gill, Jr. was the first child and only son born to Charles Edwin Gill, Sr and Francis Kathleen Coleman. He grew up in Dallas, something he was always proud of and was born in the house on Lakeshore Dr. that his grandfather, Matthew Walton Coleman built. His father was a musician and so was the son. Music was always a big part of his life. He played the clarinet as did his father. He also had a lifelong love of the organ and played it until Alzheimer's rob him of both his memory and his talent. His grandfather, William Saunders Gill built large pipe organs, so the apple did not fall far from the tree.
He went into the service, his beloved Air Force, not once but twice. The first time he lied about his age and was caught. A year later his mother signed him up. He would serve the Air Force for 20 proud years. His first job out of Basic training was The Berlin Airlift. Before he retired he worked in the Joint Cheifs of Staff at the Pentagon and served through the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He met and married Dolores Gossett while seving in Mobile Ala. They married on May 23,1951. Three children followed soon after, which was then followed by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He lost his battle with Alzheimer's four days after he celbrated his 80th birthday and six months before he would have celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife.
My dad does not have a grave stone. He was creamated and his ashes were scattered.
I am in hopes of finding other Gill's out there to trace this line further than we have been able to so far. My promise to my father was to try really hard to complete this line.
