Robert T. Michaelson, 86, of Genoa, Ill., died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore.
Born on June 7, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Rudolf and Ingeborg (Wareberg) Michaelson, he married Lenore L. Simons on October 13, 1956, in Long Lake, Ill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Robert worked various jobs, including tile setting, carpet laying, maintenance for a school district near Bartlett, a bank courier in Elgin and a greeter at Sam's Club in Hanover Park.
He was a member of the American Legion in Genoa.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lenore; three sisters, Dorothy Adrig, Corrine Vos and Sharon (Joseph) Musich; one brother, David (Eleanor) Michaelson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ruth Michaelson in 2006; and one brother, Gordon.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the local family-owned and -operated, Slater-Butala Funeral Home, Genoa. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
A private burial will take place on Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Rockford Rescue Mission in care of the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main, Genoa, IL 60135.
