Katherine was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Reedy; and at age six, she came with them to Union County, Dakota Territory. They lived on the Brule farm before moving to the James Reedy home in South Beresford. Katherine attended local schools in Beresford, SD and then in Yankton, SD before spending three years engaged in the millinery business. On November 24, 1898, Katherine married a young lawyer named W. J. Bulow at the Reedy home. For nearly twenty years, the couple lived together and had three children. Mrs. Bulow was involved with the county food administration, Red Cross, Royal Neighbors, the Woman's Study Club, and the Catholic church.
About a decade before her death, Katherine suffered from an attack of gall stones. Dr. Murphy of Chicago initially advised surgery but then believed it was unnecessary. A second attack resulted in Katherine's entering the hospital in Sioux City, IA on September 10, 1918. The operation was deferred until she grew stronger on September 16. Afterwards, she was believed to have been doing well until her health failed so rapidly during the following afternoon that she had no time to say goodbye to her family. Katherine was survived by her husband; her children; her mother; her sister, Mrs. Mary Graves; and, two brothers, Tom and John L. Reedy.
Note: Katherine's obituary lists her year of birth as 1877, conflicting with the grave stone inscription.
