b/o of Arthur Alfred Apitz

Ensign G. H. Apitz (later changed to Marshall at insistence of wife), USNR, was designated Naval Aviator #9432 in 1941. Entered active service via the pre-war Aviaton Cadet (AVCAD) program.

As the co-pilot Ensign Apitz was the sole survivor of a PBY crash, which took the lives of eigth other crewmen near Half Moon Bay, Calif., during the evening of 01 June 1942.

Released from active duty following the war, would remain in the reserves, retiring with rank of Commander in 1968.

Married the former Miss Mary Elizabeth Woods, in 1942, in Reno, NV.
