Daughter of Nancy Motley and James Hardy Witherspoon
Nancy's birth was unique. She was one of three triplets born to her parents, James Hardy and Nancy Motley WEATHERSPOON. She and her brother John survived. The third one may have died young. When her father John Hardy died he left Nancy $130.00 in his 1870 will, Allen County, Kentucky. Nancy raised their large family of eight children as well as two nephews, Frank and William WEATHERSPOON, (sons of her triplet brother John. Like her husband William, John was also killed by the bushwackers). When John CLINE's first wife died, Nancy was the caretaker for his two motherless daughters. John lived in her household. After John's second marriage to Alice Stark, they moved to their own place. Nancy had a hard time "giving up" the girls. This caused some dissension in the family".
