Francis Marion Rockwood was the son of Roderick R. Rockwood (1803-) and Eliza (Stone) Rockwood (1805-). His parents married on 23 Oct 1824, in Kentucky.

On 1 Jan 1862, Francis married Sarah Naomi Anderson (23 Nov 1845-6 Feb 1915) in Appanoose County, Iowa, IA. They had eight children (see below).

During the Civil War, Francis enlisted as a Private with Company F, 8th Iowa Cavalry on 8 Jul 1863, from his home in Appanoose County, Iowa.

He was discharged from his military service on 13 Aug 1865, at Macon, Georgia.

After the war, they lived in Elk County, Kansas where they were included in the 1880 census. By 1883, they had moved to Lewis County, Washington. They were in Cetralia, Lewis County, Washington in 1900 and Centralis, Lewis County, Washington in 1910.

Sarah Rockwood filed for a pension (#1000690) on 23 Jun 1913, after Francis Marion Rockwood's death on 14 Jan 1913.
