Ardella Burt Stewart was the daughter of William John and Sarah (Sallie) Cockerham Thomas Stewart. Ardella was the older sister of Artelia Lovis Stewart, (Find a Grave # 32403234), who married John Ervin Kolb. John Ervin, (Find a Grave # 8280950), and James Lafayette Kolb were first cousins.

Ardella married James Lafayette Kolb, the son of Newton and Hannah Cornelia McKinley Kolb, on December 22, 1859 in Old Hamilton, Mississippi.

The union between Ardella and James Lafayette produced three known children. They were:

Sarah Francis (Fannie) Kolb, born Oct. 28, 1860
James Newton Kolb, born Sept. 28, 1862
Mary L. Kolb, born Sept. 25, 1865

James and Ardella were affectionately known in the community as "Uncle Jim" and "Aunt Della". They loved their friends and family, letting it be known to everyone that their home was always open to visitors.

Ardella passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Rosalie Bankhead Plant, after a time of illness due to a broken hip. She is buried beside her husband in their lot at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
