Leonard John Carter was born Dec. 19, 1905, at Mohall No. Dak. to Richard and Rose Carter. At age 15 he became a polio victim and walked with crutches the remainder of his life.
In 1923 they moved to Clay Co. where he graduated from Spencer High School. He attended Bradley Watchmaker school in Peoria, Ill. He opperated a watch repair shop in Ruthven for 7 years. In 1940 he moved to Toledo, Ia. where he owned and opperated a jewelry business for 25 years. He retired in '65 and moved to Phoenix, Ariz. and made his home with his sister. He passed away on July 22, '67.
He is survived by 2 brothers, Elmer of Berthoud, Colo., Harold of Ruthven; and a sister, Elsie Oliver of Phoenix, Ariz.
Funeral services were held Tues. at the Methodist Church in Ruthven with Rev. Darwin Pierce officiating. Burial was at North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer. Lightle-Hayes was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were: E.C. Miller, Homer Lee, Paul Drake, Iver Holmgren, Louis Hansen, Chester Bearden.
