CARLSBAD - Irma Wakefield Kartchner, 86, of North Canal Street in Carlsbad, died Wednesday, March 29, 1995, at home.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at West Funeral Home Chapel. Former Bishop Byron Perrigo of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 25, 1908, in Taylor, Ariz., to Joseph B. and Eliza Wakefield. She and M.W. "Jack" Kartchner were married Aug. 21, 1925, and they moved to Carlsbad in 1935.
Mrs. Kartchner was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saits. She had poems published in Important American Poets and An Anthology of Arizona Poets. She was a member of the Happy Circle Extension Club for many years. Mrs. Kartchner had received numerous awards for her culinary and hobby craft talents.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Chester and Fen Wakefield.
Survivors include her husband of Carlsbad; sons, Melvin Kartchner of Carlsbad; sons, Melvin Kartchner of Carlsbad, Rex Kartchner of Roswell, Ned Kartchner of Ridge Crest, Calif., and Jack Kartchner of Carlsbad; daughters, Norma Longsine of Clanton, Ala., and Judy Kartchner of Carlsbad; sister Margie Armstrong of Carlsbad; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Don Boyd, Ben Calison, Tim Chester, Arlon Franks, Todd Kartchner and Boe Norton.
