Rhode Island Governor. He became successful in a business career, as an owner several manufacturing companies, banks and other enterprises. He served as the Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor, (1846-47) and was elected as a Whig the 20th Rhode Island Governor, serving (1847-49). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former business interests until his death.
