"Fred Stoup, age 74, of Humble (formerly of Coleman) died Thursday, September 17, 1998, at his residence. Graveside service were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Coleman Cemetery pavilion, with Rev. David Jenkins officiating. Services were under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Fred Stoup was born January 24, 1924 in Coleman, Texas, a son of the late E. D. and Novie Lou Scoggin Stoup. He grew up in Coleman, attended school here and served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. He was stationed in Guam for 12 months and then in France with the Occupation Forces following the war. He lived in Fort Worth for many years before moving to Humble. Mr. Stoup was a retired editor with the Houston Chronicle and was active in Senior Citizens and American Association of Retired Persons in Humble.

"Survivors include four brothers, Earl Stoup of Victoria, Carl Stoup of Eldorado, Alvie Stoup of Temple and William E. Stoup of Coleman; five sisters, Ruby Watters and Pearl Kile, both of Coleman, Dorothy Chastain of Denton, Margaret Wilson of Clyde and Peggy Jacobi of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews."
