Douglas Stringfellow Terry passed away of heart failure on May 3, 2011, surrounded by his children exactly one year after the funeral service of his dear wife, Corrie.

Doug was born September 17, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to La Grand R. and Clara Leah (Stringfellow) Terry. He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School.

He married his high school sweetheart, Corrie Van Tussenbroek, on October 28, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of two boys and four girls.

Doug served in the army and was stationed in the South Pacific and in the States as an artillery and rifle-training specialist in addition to maintaining military vehicles.

After his military service, he graduated from Trade Tech College as a machinist/mechanic which became his life's profession. Doug sacrificed and worked very hard to provide for his family. Doug could repair anything - cars, boat engines, washing machines, and so on. It was remarkable how he could overhaul an item with a part or two left over and still have it operate correctly!

Doug also loved BYU football, family parties, fireworks, water fights, teasing others, Condie's chocolate, and climbing Mount Timpanogos, which he did over sixty times!

As a faithful member of the LDS Church, he served in many positions including the bishopric, temple worker, Sunday school teacher, and so forth. It was his greatest wish that his children become "preachers and teachers".

Doug is now with the love of his life, Corrie, who he has missed so much. We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for the wonderful blessing of eternal families.

He will be missed by his children: Douglas (Susan) Terry; Van (Lori) Terry; Ann (Andy) Moore; Carolyn (Bryan) Butterfield; Colleen Terry; Corrie (Robert) Christiansen; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings Elise Bowers; Glenis Welling; Margene Wiest; and Janeť Spencer. Preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother, Vaughn.

A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, Utah, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Saratoga Springs Stake Center, 587 South Saratoga Springs Road, Saratoga Springs, Utah, with a viewing that morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), East Millcreek, Utah.
