Oscar Magnus Anderson

Funeral services for Oscar M Anderson, 87, a resident of the Cyrus area, were held at 11 a.m. on Monday August 6 at the Trinity Church in Cyrus. Mr. Anderson died at the Hoffman Care Center on Friday August 3 after an illness of 2 years. Officiating the service was Rev. Elias Kristensen. Music was provided by organist Mr. Gorden Thompson and soloist Mrs. Edward Veum. Paul bearers were his grandsons Lonnie Anderson, Peter Anderson, Jerald Kerzman, Timothy Berg, Theodore Thompson, and Charles Thompson. Interment took place in the St. Petri Cemetery, Cyrus.
Mr. Anderson was born near Cyrus in Waldon Township on January 26, 1892 the son of the late Martin and Lean Anderson. He grew up in the Cyrus area and as a young man moved to Montana where he homesteaded in 1917. He entered the U.S. Army in WW1. After his discharge from the army he returned to North Dakota. He was married in Minot in 1924 to Sigrid Paulson. The couple farmed at Roseglen North Dakota for a number of years and in 1960 they retired and moved to Cyrus.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Trinity Luthern Church of Cyrus. Survivors include his wife Sigrid of Cyrus, 3 sons; Dennis of Cyrus, Verdell of Minneapolis, and Merle of Hazen North Dakota, 4 daughters; (Bernice) Mrs. Clarence Thompson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Lavonne Kerzman of Minot North Dakota, Mrs. Mavis Berg of Minot North Dakota and Mrs. Phyllis Townsend of Rapid City South Dakota, 32 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, 4 sisters; Mrs. Marie Thompson of Cyrus, Mrs. Olga Holslin of Alberta, Mrs. Walter (Lilly) Hokanson of Morris and Mrs. Edna Dohmstreich of Cyrus. He was proceed in death by his parents Walter and Lena , 2 brothers Elmer and Walter, and 2 sisters Alma and Inga.


His mother's maiden name is listed as Lundeen on the Minnesota Death Index.
