U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States with his parents 1855, he settled in Dakota City, Nebraska. Relocating to Iowa, he became a printerís apprentice at Sioux City and served in the Union Army during the Civil War, (1862-65). After the war, he moved to Kansas, engaged in newspaper work, was a member of the Kansas State Senate, (1869-73), then engaged in the printing and publishing of a newspaper, (1875-76). Moving to Missouri, in 1877, he was appointed Deputy Sheriff of Buchanan County, in 1887 and was City Treasurer of St. Joseph, (1888-90). In 1895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress, serving until 1897. After his term, he engaged in the manufacture of iron and steel, until his death at age 65. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
