Jean Brown (1924-2011)


Services for Jean Brown will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Her nephew, Frank Brown, and family friend Jack Pierce will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Brown, Bobby Crews, Danny Akers, Harold Holder, Gordon Green, Stan Perkins, and David Shelton.
Jean passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Texoma Medical Center at the age of 86. Waldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jean was born September 21, 1924 in Sherman, Texas to Donald and Ethel (Morrison) Sharp. She graduated from Sherman High School as Salutatorian. She was a gifted artist, the recipient of numerous awards. She worked mainly in oils, pastels, watercolors, and ink. Jean was part owner, contributor and in charge of communications at Images Art Gallery in Denison. Her involvement with the area's arts community over the years also included teaching art at Grayson County College through the Continuing Education program, and working at ArtWorks and Pat Waymon Gallery. She was a member of Parkside Baptist Church and the Sherman Art League.
Preceded in death by her husband Frank Leon Brown on December 2, 2008, her parents, and sister Verna Newcomb, Jean is survived by her daughter Kathy Brown of Denison, numerous nieces and nephews, her dog Bo, and her cats Peanut, Snufflebug, and Rufus.
The family will receive friends at Images Art Gallery, 408 W. Main St. in Denison following the service. Those wishing to may proceed from there to Cedarlawn Memorial Park at 5805 Texoma Parkway in Sherman for the burial at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alley Cat Allies, 7920 Norfolk Ave., Suite 600, Bethesda MD 20814, or to Sherman Meals on Wheels, 1500 N. Broughton St., Sherman, TX 75090.
