A memorial fund has been established to help the family of a Bertie County deputy who died, along with his young son, in a jet ski accident on Sunday.

Deputy Kenny Cobb and his son David, who would have turned three next month, were killed while on a jet ski on the Cashie River. The family says Cobb's wife Katrina, who was critically injured in the accident, is improving at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The Police Benevolent Foundation has established the "Deputy Kenneth Cobb Memorial Fund" at Wachovia Bank. Donations that will provide financial support to Cobb's family can be made at any Wachovia branch.

The 30-year-old Cobb worked for the Bertie County Sheriff's Office for nine years.Kenneth Carlton Cobb 30 and his son David Robert Cobb 2, died Sunday April 24, 2011 while enjoying a fun family day at the river. Kenneth was born April 30, 1980 to Scott and Barbara Wiggins Cobb. David was born on May 22, 2008 to Kenneth and Katrina Hannon Cobb. Kenneth was a deputy sheriff with the Bertie County Sheriff's Department.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. David Crumpler.

Survivors include Katrina Hannon Cobb, wife of Kenneth and mother of David; David and Christine Cobb of Windsor; Robert and Jean Wiggins of Edenton; Spc. Robert Scott Cobb of Ft. Bliss TX; Christy C. Dozier of Windsor; Kevin and Noreen Hannon of Hudson, Dorothy Hannon of Hudson, Claude and Roma Ryder of Hudson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
