Wayne R. Runnells, 66, Greencastle, died Sunday evening at his residence. Born July 5, 1936 in Floyd Township of Putnam County, he was the son of Vern and Margaret (Campbell) Runnells. A 1954 Fillmore High School graduate, he had worked at the Putnam County Highway Department for 23 years, serving as a superintendent and as a foreman, retiring in 1997. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Greencastle. He married Vivian "Reta" York on Sept. 23, 1955. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susie Smith and husband Craig, McComb, Miss., and Lori Detro and husband Gene, Greencastle; three sons, Donald York, Randy Runnells and wife Kelly, all of Greencastle, and Bobby York and wife Patty, Avon; three sisters, Mavis Broadstreet and husband Freeman, Wanda Glaze and husband Bob, all of Coatesville, and Beverly Sinclair, Clinton; two brothers, Paul Runnells and wife Peggy, Greencastle, and Glen Runnells and wife Linda, Coatesville; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald York; two sisters, Onita Davidson and Juanita Kenworthy; a brother, Ray Runnells and two grandchildren. Services are set for 2 pm Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, Greencastle, with Pastor Alan Barber officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.
