Grace Ruth Summerbell, 91, Fort Dodge

Grace Ruth Summerbell, 91, Fort Dodge, died Nov. 11, 1994 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. Services were held Nov. 14 at United Methodist Church in Dickens with Rev. Clifford Haider and Rev. Don W. Burket officiating. Interment was held at Dickens Cemetery and visitation was held at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Grace Ruth Summerbell, daughter of John Wesley and Rachel Weiland Petersen was born February 13, 1903 in Paynesville, Minn. Her childhood years were spent in numerous towns throughout Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota, where her father served as pastor. She received her education in Buffalo Center, and later in Webb. On Oct. 14, 1933, she married Merril Summerbell in Britt. Throughout their marriage they lived in Iowa, where Rev. Dr. Summerbell served several churches in the Iowa Conference. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school for several years. She was also a member of the PEO. They lived in Spencer a number of years before moving to Fort Dodge and making their home at Friendship Haven. She loved to entertain fellow ministers, friends and family by serving them on her good china and fancy tablecloths.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Jack Douglas and Judith Summerbell of Rome, Ga. And Dean Vernon and Beverly Summerbell of East Bethel, Minn.; three grandsons, James D., Scott D. and Michael D. Summerbell; a great-granddaughter, Emily Rose Summerbell; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Libbie Miller, Hilda Tanner and Anna Lena Lyon; and a brother, John Petersen
