Peggy Clinard Grimes, 82, a resident of Shuler Circle, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at her residence.

A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Calvary United Church of Christ Cemetery by the Rev. Kelly Barefoot.

At her request, there will not be a memorial service or visitation.

Peggy was born March 8, 1929, in Thomasville to Carl C. Clinard and Freddie Richey Clinard. She had made this area her home most of her life and was owner and teacher of Ashmore Business College where hundreds of students were trained and counseled. Peggy graduated from Pilot School in 1947 and from Catawba College in Salisbury with a B.S. degree in business education in 1950 and also attended High Point College (now High Point University). She was an active member of Calvary United Church of Christ where she served as a trustee and elder of the consistory and church treasurer for over 20 years. Peggy aided in organizing Meals on Wheels of Thomasville and was a member of the board of directors, screening and delivery. She was secretary/treasurer of Pilot Fire Department for 20 years. In 2004, she received a plaque for volunteering with AARP as a tax aid for 25 years. Peggy served on many committees at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Home and was always active with helping others. Some say she was "at the right place at the right time when needed to do for someone else." Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved daughter, Robin Elizabeth Grimes. On Dec. 24, 1950, she married Therrell James Grimes, who also preceded her in death Jan. 9, 2002.

Surviving are her son, James C. Grimes of Thomasville; granddaughter Amber Leigh Grimes of Asheboro; and great-granddaughters Carleigh Anna Gordon and Leiya Grayce Gordon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unified Budget of Calvary United Church of Christ, 1410 Lexington Ave., Thomasville, NC 27360 or Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1821, Thomasville, NC 27361.
