John Barnard s/o Alexander & Electa (Landon) Barnard, md. 28 Jan 1823, Augusta Twp., Grenville Co., Ontarion, Canada to Freelove Thomas.

Issue: Alexander, Olivia, George, Heman, Asa, John, Ruth, Anne & Alfred Earnest.

Ref: John Barnard, yeoman, of Elizabethtown, Leeds County, District of Johnston and province of Upper Canada (now Ontario) sold 200 acres of land situated in Lot 14, Concession 12, Portland Twp., Frontenac Co., Ontario, Canada on 25 Sep. 1823 (registered 4 May 1824) for 100 pounds to Parker Smith Sr., yeoman, of Ernestown, Addington Co., Midland District, Upper Canada. Transaction recorded in Vol. H, #122, Frontenac Co. Deed. Wittnesses were Parker Smith Jr. of Ernestown and Joshua Thomas of Elizabethtown. {Archives film no. GS 3930}. This land was granted by the Crown by Patent on 14 Aug. 1816. {No wife's name given}.

Ref: (Mrs. Percival) -- Our Grandfather's wife was Freelove Thomas. Her Mother and three sisters came to Canada, Mrs. Secord (Seccor), Mrs. Baxter, and Mrs. Tarry and two brothers, Samuel and George Thomas.

Ref: (Mrs. Percival) -- Grandfather's sister was Mrs. Lyons. Her husband was for the Republic so he never came to Canada but his wife often visited Grandfather.

Ref: (Mrs. Percival) -- Great-grandfather's name was John (I think his name was Alexander, not John although Alexander's Father may have been John. It may also be true that Alexander's name was John Alexander.} His wife was Electa Landon. They came to Canada after the War and Great-grandfather formerly came from Wales, England. They came to Canada from Vermont. They were U. E. Loyalist (United Empire Loyalists) and each child that came with them drew land from the Crown. His son, Sam Barnard stayed in the States, also daughters, Elizabeth, Sally and Mrs. Lyons. Elizabeth married Mr. Nichols, Sally married Mr. {William} Hamblin, those were the ones that stayed in the States. Mrs. Gordon, don't remember her other name and John Barnard, our Grandfather and son, Aleck, came to Canada. The youngest girl, Electa who married Grant Carpenter and she and Mrs. Randall, another girl which came was born in Canada out on the third concession of Augusta, Canada. Emily Cole's daughters. Emily Cole, now living in Los Angeles, her husband is a minister in one of the large Churches there. Her son went through Canada a short time ago to attend the University in Chicago. I am enclosing a snap shot of Father and Son taken at the home of Oliva Barnards daughter who wrote up the family tree for me. She is the last of the old stock now but her oldest child lives in North Augusta, Mrs. Wylie Marshall. I am real proud of my Fathers ancestors and my Mothers too, but I can not give you their age and birthdate at this writing. If I can get them later for you I will. My oldest Brother's name was Heman, it is a family name as well as John. Heman would be 80 years and 1 month, son of Asa & Ann Jane nee Ann Jane Tackaberry.
