Edward was the only child born to John and Martha (Earley) Fisher. Supposedly, he was born in a sod hut along the Mississippi River. The Lee County Historical Society believes this may have been Rats' Row where employees of the American Fur Trading Company lived. Their job was to beat the animal furs piled outside of their huts. Rats sought warmth within the piles of furs, hence the name Rats' Row.

In 1890 (obituary below), Edward and his mother relocated to Lincolnville, Kansas where he spent the remainder of his life. He held several different occupations over the years including buttermaker, engineer, and railroad engineer. He was a freelance amateur photographer wielding a 1920's Seroco (Sears Roebuck and Co.) camera. Many of his photographs still exist within the family as does the still functional camera.

His marriage on 27 Jun 1892 in Lincolnville to Lillie Alma Moss produced 11 children all of whom survived into adulthood.
