Lester C. Thatcher, 59, of 421 West Madison St., died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, following an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Adams County, he was born in Berne, June 1, 1923, the son of John and Margaret Moser-Thatcher. He was married December 16, 1955, to Alta Mae Siders, who survives.
He retired on disability last November after eight years of service with Decatur Industries. Prior to that, he had worked 21 years for the Krick-Tyndall Co.
Mr. Thatcher was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
Also surviving are four sons, William R. Brown, Lowell L., David E., and Anthony W. Thatcher, all of Decatur; one daughter, Evelyn Thatcher of Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Gorganes of North Carolina and Edna Thatcher of Davenport, Fla., and three grandchildren. One brother is deceased.
A Mass Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Phillip De Volder as celebrant. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Gillig-Doan & Sefton Funeral Home, where a scriptural wake will be held at 8 p.m. this evening.
