Just after 1 a.m. on July 29, 1976, she and her friend had just returned home from a disco, and had run into her parents, who were also just getting home, they exchanged pleasantries, and they teased their daughter about getting in soon. She and her friend then sat in the car chatting for a few minutes when a man came to within eight feet of the car. Donna turned and asked her friend if she knew who he was, when he fired four shots through the closed window; Donna was killed instantly, the first victim of the so-called Son of Sam killer.
