Ralph Edward Byington, 63 of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Bristol Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness as a result of lung and kidney problems. He was born on August 30, 1946. Ralph worked hard all his life and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Powell Construction for 35 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Ralph was a member of Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Isabeth Byington; a grandson, Jonathan Edward Housewright; his parents, Robert Byington, Sr. and Ruth Klepper Byington; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Blue Eyes Christian.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 43 years, Bertha Christian Byington of the home; daughter, Kim Housewright of Surgoinsville; 2 granddaughters, Emily and Amber Housewright; sisters, Bertha Necessary and husband Clarence of Kingsport, Bobbie Lindsey and husband, Chester of Church Hill, Shirley Seymore and husband, Robert of Knoxville and Linda Scalf and husband Dale of Surgoinsville; brothers, Robert Byington and wife Shiloney of Surgoinsville and Jerry Byington and wife Bobbie of Clinchport, VA; very special friend, Doug Martin of Rogersville; very special friends, Billy and Virgie Falin of Gate City; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill, TN. Friends may also call anytime at the residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church, (Caney Valley Loop) Surgoinsville with Pastor Richard Watts and Pastor Ken Cormier officiating. Music will be provided by Billy Falin and Melissa Casteel.

Burial will follow in the Thacker Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the TN National Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Powell Construction Co-Workers.
