Actor. He is best remembered as a western actor in both film and television. He was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Los Angeles, California in the late 1930s to pursue a film career. He found a job as an insurance clerk and was soon noticed by an agent and was signed in 1941 by film producer Howard Hughes to play the lead role of Billy the Kid in "The Outlaw" (released in 1943), which also featured another newcomer Jane Russell. In 1951 he appeared in "Best of the Badmen," his first film appearance in eleven years. He went on to appear in the films "The Half Breed" (1952), "Jesse James' Women" (1954), and "Mustang" (1959). In 1956, he landed the role of 41-year-old Jeff Taggert in Edgar Buchanan's syndication western series, "Judge Roy Bean." On television he appeared in "Wagon Train" (1957-1965), "Hawaiian Eye" (1959-1963), "Maverick" (1957-1962), and "26 Men" (1957-1959). He also appeared as himself in the 1982 "Night of 100 Stars" television special. He died in Portland, Oregon at the age of 73. (bio by: William Bjornstad)
