The Gettysburg Times October 12, 1928

Jacob F Deardorff, 80, father of thirteen sons and daughters, prominent and life long resident of Adams county, died at his home, near McKnightstown, at 8:00 this morning, from the effects of a fall in his farm barn Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Deardorff, despite his advanced years, has been unusually active about his farm and yesterday afternoon, while proceeding with his chores, in some unknown manner, fell. No one was near the aged man at the time of the mishap and the nature of the fall and the extent of his injuries could not be ascertained.
He walked to his home and about 6:00 last night lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never recovered. The end came this morning.
He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters; I L Deardorff, McKnightstown; Mrs. H J Rife, Orrtanna; Mrs. John C Bream, Gettysburg; Ross R, Plainfield, New Jersey; Mrs. Blaine Bushey, Biglerville; Gilbert, Lawrenceville, New Jersey; Clarence, McKnightstown; Mrs. C F Watson, Oakland, California; Mrs. Homer Shaw, New Kensington; Mrs. Philip Bower, Emmitsburg; Mrs. Walter Lott, Gettysburg, and Mrs. Paul Charles, Gettysburg. One sister, Mrs. Charlotte Lady, of Franklin county, also survives.
Brief funeral services from the Deardorff home at 10:00, Monday morning, with further services at 10:30 at Flohr’s church, the Rev. George B Ely, officiating. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.
