James Hunt
Birth: Aug. 29, 1947
Death: Jun. 15, 1993

1976 World F1 Champion. James Simon Wallis Hunt was born in Belmont, Surrey. Nicknames "Hunt the Shunt" because of his many crashes early in his career, Hunt was a volatile, highly strung man, yet fun loving hedonist. During his career in F1, he won 10 Grand Prix and attained 14 pole positions from 92 starts. He won the 1976 World F1 Championship driving for McLaren, after which his career started to slide. He eventually gave up racing as it frankly scared him and he'd lost many friends in the sport. He partnered Murray Walker commentating on TV coverage of the races. Eventually his lifestyle caught up with him, dying from a major heart attack during his sleep   at the age of 45. A funeral took place at St.Mary's Church, Wimbledon, followed by a cremation at Putney Vale Crematorium.
