NORFOLK - Norma Maxine Washington Alston, 56, of the 800 block of E. 28th St., passed peacefully and quietly Sept. 26, 2002. She was a native of Norfolk born to the late Charlie and Manerva Riddick Washington. She was the widow of George William Alston Sr.
Maxine was a warm and gentle person who attended Jacox Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Her kindness and smile always lit up the room and filled everyone with joy.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Melvina Alston, Esther Alston and Yolanda Alston; three sons, George Alston Jr., Anthony Williams and Darrick Alston; three sisters, Frances Pinkney, Edna Thigpen and Margaret Skinner and husband John; three brothers, Frank Washington, Alinda Washington and Nathaniel Washington and wife Elaine; a brother-in-law, Robert Alston; 16 grandchildren; a special friend, Clevon Hicks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Randolph and Wallace Washington.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at noon in Riddick Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Jeremiah L. Cuffee. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
