U.S. Congressman. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, he moved to New York, attended Canandaigua Academy, studied medicine and moved to Lancaster, Ohio, in 1822. There he taught school, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1825, commenced to practice law, then moved to Cleveland, Ohio and continued the practice of law, (1826-37). Moving to Michigan, he laid out the town of Belvidere, plus engaged in banking and mercantile pursuits until 1850. In 1851, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress, serving until 1853. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits unti his death at age 71 in St. Clair, Michigan. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
