During the war he was in the Medical Corps with MacArthur at Corregidor. JB was a prisoner of war for nearly four years, imprisoned by the Japanese at Fukuoka POW Camp #1-Kashii (Pine Tree Camp) Kyushu Island 33-130.
He came home to Springfield, Missouri where he met and married his wife Mary Louise Cunningham on August 16, 1947 in St Louis, MO. He worked for the Missouri State Highway Patrol for many years, living in Kirkwood, Missouri. He and Mary have three sons.
